All stores located in Bolaq Abul Ela district will be evacuated before the month of Ramdan to build Maspero mall and metro station, Chairman of the National Authority for Tunnels (NAT) GeneralTarek Gamal el-Din stated Tuesday.
The stores will be evacuated, even if by force, the chairman stated, clarifying that the stores’ owner had been given a notice period that ends on May 15.
The Maspero Triangle is located on the Nile River and behind the Foreign Ministry and the Maspero Radio and Television building in downtown Cairo.
NAT is obliged to hand over the entire location of Maspero to the French company assigned to carry out that project on May 25, otherwise NAT will be fined up to LE 40 million ($ 2.2 million) a month, Gamal el-Din noted.
He asserted that the authority had sent warning notes to the stores’ owners, after completing the negotiations process throughout more than three years, adding that seven owners have already agreed, while 18 are rejecting the decision.
