CAIRO – 8 August 2018: Members of the Sudanese ministerial committee arrived from Khartoum to take part in joint Egyptian-Sudanese meetings.

Sources from the Cairo International Airport said that the delegation is headed by Sudanese Foreign Undersecretary, Ambassador Abdul Ghani al-Naeem.
Egypt and Sudan announced launching join military talks. These talks are expected to increase military cooperation between both nations.

According to the Middle East News Agency, Mohamed Farid, army chief of staff, left Cairo for Khartoum on Monday to attend the fifth meeting of the Egyptian-Sudanese military committee.

The Egyptian-Sudanese military meetings focus on discussing joint files between the two countries. This is alongside ministerial consultations in Cairo regarding strategic partnership between Egypt and Sudan.

General Hisham Abdel-Mutalab, head of the Sudanese team in the talks, expressed that both countries need to benefit from the “accumulated experience of both armies to enhance joint cooperation and exchange expertise,” as stated in the Sudan Tribune.
Ambassador Osama Shaltout said that delegates from both countries, including ministers of foreign affairs, trade, agriculture, electricity, transport, education, etc…, will start joint meetings too, according to Al-Dostour.

Cooperation and meetings between Egypt and Sudan are generally taking place, often due to common interests, geographic locations and a shared River Nile.
In mid-July, Egyptian President Abdel-Fatah al-Sisi visited Sudan to discuss bilateral ties. Both countries agreed to work on promoting bilateral economic and trade cooperation.

During his visit, Sisi tweeted, “My happiness is enormous with my visit to the brotherly Sudan; the ties between Egypt and Sudan are as eternal as the Nile, the vein of life.”
Ties between both countries are expected to strengthen in light of the upcoming scientific projects and discussions regarding the Nile Valley Authority for River Navigation.
