Egypt’s FM heads to Washington ahead of Sisi’s visit to US

CAIRO - 5 August 2018: Egypt’s Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry will head to Washington on Monday morning in preparation for President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi's upcoming visit to the US.

During his two day visit, Shoukry will meet his American counterpart Mike Pompeo, National Security Adviser John Bolton and a number of representatives of American companies to bolster Egyptian –US relations, spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Ahmed Abu Zeid stated.

The meeting will discuss the vision of the US administration for the Arab Region and a number of international issues of mutual concern, including the US aid program to Egypt in economic, developmental and military aspects.

“This visit will tackle the agenda of Sisi’s upcoming visit to the US,” Abu Zeid said. It is expected that President Sisi will attend the 73rd Session of the United Nations General Assembly ((UNGA 73) due to kick off on September 18.


Shoukry will also participate in a roundtable with a number of influential American figures so as to boost US investment in Egypt, which comes as part of the efforts to strengthen strategic relationships between the two countries.

Shoukry will shed light on Egypt’s efforts in fighting terrorism and will stress on the importance of achieving common interests of the two countries in various fields. The foreign minister will coordinate with his counterpart on the dates for the next strategic dialogue 2 +2 High –level consultations, led by the ministries of foreign affairs and defense of the two countries.
