CAIRO – 17 July 2018: The Parliament will vote on Tuesday, July 24, on revoking the membership of some of its members, according to Parliament Speaker Ali Abdel Aal.

This came during the plenary session held on Tuesday when the members of the Parliament voted on the draft law to amend some provisions of Law no. 54 for 1964 on the regulation of Administrative Control Authority, law No. 79 of 1975 on the regulation of issuing social insurance, and law No. 100 of 1987 on identifying the financial transactions of head of the House of Representatives, prime minister, governors and the government’s members.

House of Representatives Speaker Abdel-Aal announced on Sunday that a session to discuss an awaited-report in response to the government's policy statement will be adjourned to Tuesday.

Addressing a general session of the legislature, Abdel-Aal told the lawmakers that the adjournment was approved by the prime minister.

The report will be read out by the Parliament's first undersecretary on Tuesday instead of July 15, he noted.

A parliamentary committee has been formed to review the policy statement and the new government’s program, delivered by Mostafa Madbouly before the Parliament on July 3. The committee should prepare a comprehensive report on the statement and submit it to the Parliament to discuss it during the plenary session.

According to Article 146 of Egypt’s 2016 Constitution, a newly appointed prime minister should deliver a policy statement before the Parliament and this statement should gain a vote of confidence within 30 days.

"If the statement failed to gain a vote of confidence within the required 30 days, Parliament would be considered dissolved and a new Parliament would be elected within sixty days," Article 146 states.
