CAIRO – 19 May 2017: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs denied embezzlement charges against the Egyptian ambassador in Berlin Badr Abdel Atty or the registration of an embassy vehicle in his name, an official statement stated.

The statement called on the Egyptian newspapers and media to "refrain from promoting or circulating false news reports" quoted from unknown sources. The ministry's response comes after news widely shared on social media alleged that some of the embassy staff in Berlin may face corruption charges over purchasing a luxury car with public funds.

However, five diplomats have been assigned non-diplomatic positions, according to the statement.

The statement also emphasized it has an internal regulatory body that monitors the standards and rules of diplomatic work, which requires "the highest degree of functional commitment in line with the highly sensitive nature of diplomatic work."
