Parliament’s delegation visits Nicosia ahead of expected summit

CAIRO – 11 July 2018: Tarek Radwan, chairman of Egyptian Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee, met Tuesday with Cypriot Foreign Minister Nikos Christodoulides in the Cypriot capital of Nicosia to discuss bilateral relations between both countries.

Radwan, along with a parliamentary delegation, arrived in Nicosia in an official visit to Cyprus; the visit is seen as a prelude to the expected tripartite meeting between Egyptian, Greek and Cypriot heads of Parliament in September.

The three nations organized several tripartite summits during the last four years to intensify cooperation in economy, security, tourism and energy, the latter is considered as the most important due to the common maritime borders between the three nations in the Mediterranean Sea.

On November 20, President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi visited Cyprus and discussed the construction of a pipeline to deliver gas to Egypt from Cyprus’s Aphrodite field.

On April 2, Cypriot President Nicos Anastasiades congratulated President Sisi in a telephone call on his re-election for a second term, wishing Egyptians everlasting progress and prosperity.

Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry met his Cypriot counterpart Christodoulides in Cairo on April 10, both ministers discussed the Turkish threat to Egyptian-Cypriot rights in the Mediterranean.
