CAIRO – 2 July 2018: Under the auspices of Egyptian President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi, AIESEC, a global youth-run organization activating youth leadership since 1948, has announced the date of its annual International Congress to take place from July 2-9 in Hurghada.
The congress will be attended by Minister of Tourism, Rania al-Mashat, and Abdel Rahman Ayman, 2017-18 global president of AIESEC.
In its 70th edition, the congress will gather more than 700 youth from more than 120 countries and territories worldwide to celebrate youth leadership, cultural diversity, as well as host discussions about three main themes that impact the world: sustainability development, entrepreneurship, and youth employment.
The International Congress is also an occasion where top AIESEC leaders, representing their local and national boards, review the organizational state of affairs, create strategies and decide on the plans for the future towards the organization’s ambition to be a Youth Leadership Movement by 2020. They also undergo capacity building workshops to further develop their leadership and soft skills.
AIESEC is hosting the International Congress for the second time in Egypt, raising the awareness of attendees from different countries all over the world about Egypt’s rich culture and hospitality, aiming to embrace and celebrate different cultures from around the world.
“We are proud to host this year’s International Congress in Egypt to promote Egypt as an ideal investment and networking platform for business leaders, start-ups, and job seekers to find relevant opportunities,” commented Ayman, AIESEC’s first Egyptian global president.
The International Congress' activities this year have been designed to meet the interests of delegates, business leaders, entrepreneurs, and global trailblazers from around the world, to discuss the most relevant issues affecting today’s world.
One of the major highlights of the Congress’ activities is the “Global Village”; every country and territory, where AIESEC operates, will showcase their culture through their traditional outfits, food, music and culture, as well as provide awareness about local and national community issues. Other special events during the congress include the Global Youth Speak Forum: a one-day function where youth and senior leaders collaborate to discuss the 2030 sustainable development goals, the delivery of the world's largest lesson - where delegates interact with local citizens in Hurghada about the global goals - and the AIESEC 70th Global Celebration Event to commemorate the organization’s platinum anniversary.
In the span of three years, AIESEC was able to expand across 18 cities in Egypt. As education is the primary sector that the organization focuses on in Egypt, they work with more than 350 schools, educational and vocational centres, across the country. AIESEC empowers university students to act and contribute to AIESEC projects, either through working individually or through AIESEC.
