CAIRO - 17 May 2017: Quarantine authorities at Cairo International Airport introduced emergency measures Tuesday, in response to Yemen’s cholera outbreak.

Travelers arriving on flights from Aden or Si’oun Airport in Hadramout to Egypt will be examined and their data will be recorded for follow-up, Al-Masry Al-Youm reported, quoting Director of the Quarantine Department at the airport Medhat Qandil.

The decision came after instructions from the Ministry of Health, in order to protect the country from possible spread of cholera. The ministry has also doubled the number of doctors in the airports’ arrival halls to examine travelers arriving from affected areas.

“Not only will passengers from Yemen undergo a very careful screening, they will also be asked to provide their contact information to be able to communicate with them and examine them later,” Kandil stated.

Patients with suspected infection will be isolated and transferred immediately to Abbassia Fever Hospital for further examination, sources at the Health Quarantine revealed.

Yemen's cholera outbreak has killed 184 people over the past two weeks, according to a report by the United Nations (U.N.).
