CAIRO - 11 June 2018: Security forces managed to foil a terrorist attack that was aiming to target vital organizations and facilities inside Egypt during Eid Al-Fitr, according to Ministry of Interior's statement released on Monday, June 11.
Four terrorists were killed in Al-Ubaidat neighborhood, Arish city, North Sinai, during a fire exchange between the security forces and terrorists, according to the ministry’s statement. A number of guns and rifles were seized by the police after storming the terrorists’ hideout.
The ministry explained in its statement that the terrorist group was planning during the past period to destabilize the country’s security and stability; however the police investigated their activity and managed to launch proactive strikes against them.
Earlier on May 30, Egypt’s security forces succeeded in foiling attempts to establish new camps for terrorists along Wahat Road, the same place that witnessed a massive terrorist attack last October in which at least 16 police officers were killed.
The new camp was planning to target several buildings, police officers, and vital areas and locations inside the country during Ramadan, sources told Egypt Today.
Al-Harak al-Moslah, an armed group affiliated with the Muslim Brotherhood, was reported to contributing to establishing the terrorist camp. Another fugitive terrorist from Ismailia governorate was also reported to be helping. According to the sources, this terrorist was arrested earlier for participating in terrorist attacks aiming to destabilize the state. However, he managed to escape despite being sentenced to 10 years in prison.
After investigating the information received about the new alleged terrorist camp in Wahat, a huge military operation was launched and managed to foil the attempt to form the new camp. The operation also succeeded to kill the fugitive terrorist. A number of arms were sized during the military operation, along with a black motorcycle without metal plates.
