Sisi was received on arrival by Abdel-Aal, his first deputy Mahmoud El-Sherif, and his second deputy Sulaiman Wahdan among tight security measures at the headquarters of the parliament ahead of the arrival of President Sisi’s motorcade.

After swearing-in for a second term, 21-gun salute was performed.
During his speech, Abdel Aal read a letter handed by the National Elections Authority (NEA) confirming Sis’s victory in the March elections. The ceremony stared with the national anthem and artillery delivered a celebratory 21-gun salute.
“You have fulfilled what you have pledged,” Abdel Aal said in his speech. He said that the past four years have witnessed major achievements like: the inauguration of the New Suez Canal, the rise of foreign reserves, the decrease of the unemployment rate and the release of hundreds of detained youth.

He further added that “Egyptians succeeded to overcome all ordeals and pains” as their country faced huge challenges, on top of which is terrorism.
“You managed to reinstate Egypt’s prestigious place in the world, particularly among the Gulf States and African countries,” Abdel Aal added, saying that Egypt exerted great effort to reach inter-Palestinian reconciliation.
Before delivering his speech to mark the beginning of his second term, Sisi asked the attendants, ministers, Prime Minister Sherif Ismail, top security officials, Al-Azhar head Ahmed el-Tayyeb, Coptic Orthodox Pope Tawadros II and Grand Mufti Shawki Allam, for a minute of Silence for the military and police martyrs.
“I pledged to save the country’s constitutions and interests,” Sis said in his
before the parliament, adding: “I renew my pledge to continue the development to face the challenges, preserve our national unity and bring its stability.”
Sisi concluded his speech with: Long live Egypt, Long Live Egypt.
The President first directly addressed the house in January 2016 after the parliamentary elections, to announce the transfer of legislative power from the president to parliament.
This the first time Sisi takes the oath before the parliament, since he took his first presidential oath in 2014 in front of the Supreme Constitutional Court.

Sisi swept the presidential election held in March. He won with more than 97 percent of the votes against his rival Moussa Moustafa Moussa. He swore in for his first presidential term in 2014 before the General Assembly of the Supreme Constitutional Court due to the absence of the parliament at that time.
According to the Constitution, Sisi’s first presidential term ends on June 3, 2018. Swearing before the Parliament will be applied for the first time since 2005 when former President Hosni Mubarak took the oath for the last time.
