FM Shoukry says Egyptian Sudanese relations ‘sanctifying’

CAIRO – 30 May 2018: Egyptian Minister of Foreign affairs Sameh Shoukry described the Egyptian- Sudanese relations as “sanctifying” during statements on Tuesday, May 29.

He added during a joint press conference with his Sudanese counterpart el-Dardiri Mohamed Ahmed That Egypt is extremely keen on enhancing the cooperation between both countries on all levels.

The two officials discussed several political issues during their meeting Tuesday in Cairo, including the national, international challenges, along with the water security issue and the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD). Both diplomats confirmed during their statements that Cairo and Khartoum Share a similar perspective regarding most of the discussed issues.

Dardiri said during the conference that the political situations in South Africa, Libya and other conflict zones have been discussed during the meeting with Shoukry. He explained that both countries aiming to figure political solutions to most of the political conflicts.

“Egypt, Sudan and Ethiopia overcame many challenges and problems during the past period, and capable of overcoming the rest of it.” Dardiri added.

Dardiri invited President Abdel Fath al-Sisi to visit Sudan next October per president Omar al-Bashir request, a summit is scheduled to take place between the two leaders by then.

Earlier on March, Sudanese president Omar al-Bashir visited Egypt for one day and met with Sisi, as several issues of mutual concern were discussed between both leaders. The meeting came after a quartet meeting held between both countries’ foreign ministers and intelligence chiefs last February.

During the visit, both leaders agreed to “activate” bilateral relations and implement the outcomes of the 2015 agreement on the controversial Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD).

“It has been agreed to continue implementing the outcomes of the Addis Ababa-held Egyptian-Sudanese-Ethiopian tripartite summit on the Renaissance dam, the preliminary outcomes of the mentioned summit were to carry out the Declaration of the Renaissance Dam Principles Charter that was signed on March 23, 2015 in Khartoum,” said President Sisi in a joint press conference with Bashir in Cairo last March.
