Egyptian army seized weapons and ammunition belonging to militants - Facebook
CAIRO – 14 May 2017: Two sacks of explosives including C4, a number of weapons and rocket shells were seized in central Sinai by the Third Field Army on Saturday, according to the official military spokesperson’s Facebook page, Tamer el-Refaay.
The weapons and ammunition were being stored in hideouts, according to the military intelligence information.
The Egyptian army and police have been grappling with an Islamist insurgency in parts of the North Sinai governorate that spiked following the 2013 ouster of Islamist President Mohamed Morsi.
The Islamist insurgency has killed hundreds of Egyptian security forces, predominately in North Sinai. The army also announced it has killed hundreds of militants.
