President al-Sisi meets Haftar - Egypt Today
CAIRO - 13 May 2017: President Abdel-Fatah al-Sisi received Commander-in-Chief of the Libyan Armed Forces Khalifa Haftar at the presidential palace on Saturday, according to an official statement.
Sisi affirmed Egypt's steadfast stance on the Libyan crisis and its continuing efforts to reach a political solution by encouraging dialogue between the various parties, Presidential Spokesperson Alaa Youssef said.
The Egyptian president also stressed on the importance of restoring the unity of the military institution in Libya and lifting the restrictions on the supply of arms to the Libyan army, as well as the need to stop the financing of terrorist organizations and confront foreign parties that seek to temper with the fate of the Libyan people.
Haftar expressed his appreciation for the important role Egypt plays in the Libyan crisis, praising its efforts to help all parties reach a consensus and its keenness to secure the stability of the situation in Libya.
The meeting also tackled the latest political developments in Libya, affirming the necessity to elevate national interests in a way that allows the reconstruction of state institutions and satisfies the ambitions of the Libyan people in a stable life.
