CAIRO – 19 May 2018: The monitoring committee of Egypt’s Media Syndicate is following up on the television programs broadcasting in Ramadan in order to investigate any transgressions that occur during the holy month, said Hamdi al-Konaysi, head of the Media Syndicate.
The monitoring committees of the Media Syndicate, the Egyptian Radio and Television Union (ERTU) and Sawt al-Qahira (Sono Cairo) are coordinating with each other, Konaysi added.

Galal's annual shows receive controversial and mixed reactions from audiences.
The Media Syndicate will also coordinate with the Supreme Council for Media Regulations (SCMR) to punish those who violate professional and ethical standards.
The administrative council of Egypt’s Media Syndicate and SCMR has imposed penalties over TV programs and presenters previously this year.
The Media Syndicate decided to suspend Amany el-Khayat, host of the ONTV show “Beyn Al-Sotor” (Between the Lines), for one month, and to suspend Ahmed el-Sherif, host of LTC show “Malaab El Sherif” (Sherif’s Pitch), for three weeks, Konaysi said in a statement in February.
The decision was taken after revising the code of ethics, the code of professional conduct that was issued according to law No.93 of 2016, and the prime minister’s decree No. 573 for year 2017 to establish the founding committee for the Media Syndicate, Konaysi said.

The SCMR decided to stop the broadcast of the Comedy TV show “Saturday Night Live” (SNL).
The council said in a statement published in February that the decision was based on the investigations held by the council’s Complaints Committee, which stated that the program broadcast on OSN used inappropriate sexual implications, contravening ethical and professional standards.
CAIRO - 11 February 2018: Egypt's Supreme Media Regulatory Council decided on Sunday to stop the broadcast of the Comedy TV show, Saturday Night Live (SNL). The Media Council said in a statement published Sunday, that the decision was based on the investigations held by the Council's Complaints Committee which has stated that the program broadcast on OSN used inappropriate sexual implications contravene ethical and professional standards.
In January 2017, President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi issued a law establishing a syndicate for audio-visual media personnel, following the Parliament’s approval. The Media Syndicate is responsible for regulating audio-visual media practices, as well as defending its members.
Meanwhile, the Supreme Council for Media Regulations was established on December 24, 2016 after President Sisi issued Law No. 92 of 2016 on the Institutional Organization of the Press and the Media as an independent body with a corporate personality.
The role of the council is to regulate and supervise media outlets in all forms: print, broadcast and electronic; and it establishes the framework and standards necessary to ensure that media outlets abide by the rules and ethics of the profession.
