CAIRO – 14 May 2018: Russia Today (RT) channel published an utterly provocative poll on its website questioning Egypt’s sovereignty over the Halayeb Triangle.

Egypt Today has compiled all the details that you need to know about the RT poll, which was later taken down from the website.

On Monday, May 14, RT put out a fraudulent map of the Arab world that shows the Halayeb Triangle as not part of Egypt. The map was the basis of an infograph published by RT highlighting the most powerful militaries of the Arab world in 2018, with Egypt coming at the top and Sudan at the bottom.

In press remarks on Monday, Karam Gabr, head of the National Press Authority, said that RT is showing persistence in attempting to harm Egypt, and he called on concerned parties from all media organizations to boycott the Russian network.

Egypt’s State Information Service (SIS) said in a statement that the channel has removed the poll from its website after Cairo-based RT representatives were contacted.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has contacted Russian authorities to express Egypt’s strong disapproval of the public survey launched by RT on Friday over the sovereignty of the Halayeb Triangle area located on the Egyptian-Sudanese border, the ministry said in a statement Saturday.

On Friday evening, RT launched a poll over the sovereignty of the Halayeb Triangle, asking whether the land belongs to Egypt or Sudan. The channel then apologized on Saturday and took the poll off its website after Egypt voiced its denouncement.
