CAIRO - 11 May 2017: President of Serbia Tomislav Nikolić announced his support to the nomination of Ambassador Moushira Khattab for the post of UNESCO’s Director-General in 2017, succeeding Irina Bokova.

During their meeting in the Serbian capital, Belgrade, Nikolić said that his country’s support is stemmed from the historic friendship between Egypt and Serbia, pointing out that Egypt embraces different cultures, which enables it to deal with all countries and to understand multiculturalism.

Khattab delivered to Nikolić a “Thank You” letter from President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi for his support for Egypt’s nomination. She also reviewed her program that concentrated on education.

“UNESCO is a very important organization for the entire cultural heritage in the world, to which Egypt gives tremendous contribution,” Serbian ambassador in Cairo, Dragan Bisenic Told Egypt Today.

Bisenic said that his country intends to cooperate further with Egypt in the UNESCO, especially that the organization protects a number of medieval monuments, churches and monasteries in Kosovo province that Serbia wants to preserve.

Khattab’s visit to Serbia is part of her tour to promote her nomination for the UNESCO’s top post.
