CAIRO – 8 May 2018: President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi received on Tuesday his Ugandan counterpart, Yoweri Museveni, at Al-Ittihadiya Presidential Palace; the meeting is scheduled to be preceded by a press conference.

During the meeting, a number of agreements will be signed between Egypt and Uganda to promote the bilateral cooperation in the fields of agriculture, industry, electricity and renewable energy, according to Ambassador Bassam Radi, presidency spokesman.

Museveni’s visit aims to discuss ways to promote the bilateral relations,in line with Egypt’s concern to coordinate and cooperate with its brotherly African countries in different fields. The talks will focus on a number of African issues of common interest.

Kutesa announced on Monday during a joint press conference with Shoukry in Cairo that Sisi’s past visit to Uganda left a lot of “great cooperation memories” between the two countries.

In June 2017, Sisi visited Uganda to participate in the Nile Basin Summit;several talks were held between Sisi and his Ugandan counterpart on the sidelines of the summit. Sisi’s first presidential visit to Uganda was in December 2016,where the two leaders praised the long-historical relations between the two countries and affirmed that efforts will be exerted to enhance the two countries’ relations and cooperation.

During the press conference, Kutesa said that he discussed several issues with Shoukry and agreed to organize a joint business forum with Egypt and the African Union next year. He added that his government is completely supportive of Egypt in its war against terrorism, praising Egypt’s role in unifying the African nations.

Kutesa also affirmed that Egypt has the right to receive and enjoy its full share of Nile water without being threatened in any way. He said that further talks and discussions are expected to take place between the two countries, especially regarding water, communications and technology.
