CAIRO – 8 May 2018: Ride –hailing company “Careem” issued a statement Monday regarding the new bill passed recently by the Egyptian House of Representatives to regulate ride-hailing apps in Egypt.

The Statement came as the following:

“Today' s vote and passage of the [ride-hailing law] marks a remarkable step for Egypt, Careem and our region.

It is the first time in any of Careem's operating markets that a regulatory framework for ride-hailing has emerged from a consultative legislative and parliamentary process.

In passing the law, the Egyptian government and Parliament sends out a strong signal that Egypt continues to be open for business and investment and is a hub for innovation and the technology ecosystem.”

Egyptian parliament approved Sunday a draft of regulating the ride-hailing apps, like Uber and Careem, including several step to legalize the electronic transport services.

The new bill consists of four articles regulate the work of the two major companies in Egypt, delaying three other articles for further discussions between MPs and the concerned ministers.
