CAIRO- 10 May 2017: MP Tawfik Okasha sentenced to one year in prison by the Misdemeanour Court of Nasr City for the forging of his PhD certificate.

A lawyer had reported Okasha for presenting a forged PhD certificate when he was elected as a member of the House of Representatives, saying that the parlimentarian’s college was fake, since there is no college in U.S. or any other place called ‘Lakewood Bradenton International University,’ where Okasha alleged he had attained his PhD in managing media foundations.

Okasha will be billed 5000 EGP ($275.79) to suspend the penalty.

The controversial Parlimentarian used to be a TV anchor for his own TV channel “Faraeen”, before his election. He was expelled from parliament in March 2016 for receiving Israel’s ambassador, Haim Koren, for dinner at his home.
