CAIRO – 28 April 2018: The Ministry of Education is not entitled to regulate the testing process for the international schools, Minister of Education Tarek Shawki announced on Friday.

This came following a series of complaints filed by families of students of the abovementioned schools that the final exams have been leaked. The exams have been taking place at the British Council and other accredited international bodies in Egypt.

In early April, the Ministry of Education signed an agreement with the British Council and representatives from other relevant bodies offering the international general certificate for secondary education, including Cambridge, Pearson, Edexcel and Oxford, to regulate the testing process of Egypt’s international schools.

Over the past few years, and in order to curb cheating, the Ministry of Education rolled out the exam booklet format, in which students answer the exam questions on the same paper as the questions.

The exam booklet format was first implemented in the academic year 2016-2017, and had almost eradicated cheating, which was common in the former format based mainly on easily predicted essay questions.
