CAIRO - 7 May 2017: The German team, tasked with moving King Tutankhamun’s treasures to the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM), has reached a final display design for the halls that will hold the treasures, Head of Archeology and Information Affairs, Mohamed Atwa revealed on Sunday.

The German team, along with Egyptian experts, revealed the final design of King Tut’s halls at the GEM that will showcase the treasures of the young king in a modern and scientific way, Atwa added.

The highly anticipated GEM is situated on 120 acres of land and located 2km southwest of the Giza Pyramids.

It was scheduled to open in August 2015, but due to financing problems, the inauguration was postponed. Construction is expected to be finished by the end of 2017, after which an inauguration date will be set.

Construction of the GEM began in 2003 but was stopped after the 2011 uprising, then resumed again in 2012.

During the past few years, thousands of artifacts from several museums and archaeological sites have been transferred to the new museum.
