CAIRO - 13 April 2018: The Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union (AIPU) expressed strong condemnation of Yemen’s Houthi rebels’ ongoing missile attacks on Saudi Arabia, threatening safety and stability of the kingdom.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the AIPU also denounced all the terrorist acts committed by the Houthi militias against the Yemeni people which risk all the peacemaking attempts in the war-torn country.
The statement affirmed the AIPU’s support to the Saudi-led coalition fighting the Houthis to restore stability and legitimacy in Yemen, calling on the international community and the United Nations to oppose the terrorist operations of the Houthis.
According to Saudi state media, a number of ballistic missiles were shot on the kingdom’s capital and the southern cities of Jizan and Najran by Houthi fighters as the Iran-backed group stepped up attacks recently.
Egypt had hosted the 27th conference of the AIPU on April 4, which was held at the headquarters of the Egyptian Parliament.
The AIPU conference takes place annually and is headed by the parliament speaker of the host country. The union, established in 1974, includes Arab parliaments and consultative (Shura) councils that tackle the issues of the Arab world.
