CAIRO – 12 April 2018: The three-day joint Egyptian-UAE naval exercise which was taking place in the Red Sea naval base concluded on Thursday.
Having commenced on Tuesday and under the name of Khalifa3, the biennial exercises and maritime activities aimed at enhancing the naval defensive and targeting capabilities of both countries’ naval forces, and increasing their competence in hunting maritime mines, confronting unconventional threats and defending maritime transportation lines.
Along with surface warfare exercises, ways to conduct cross deck flying and subsequent crew exchange and to supply the vessels with fuels were other important highlights of the activities conducted by the naval forces of the UAE and Egypt.

This training comes in light of the two brotherly countries’ mutual interest in strengthening military-to-military relations and within the framework of the keenness of the Egyptian Armed Forces to share and exchange expertise with friendly countries and to develop the skills of naval commanders and officers to maintain a high-level of combat efficiency and to standardize operational concepts with the usage of technology.
The commencement of the biennial maritime training also came in parallel with the UAE’s Sheikh Mohamed Al-Nahyan’s two-day visit to Cairo.
In a telephone call following Sisi’s win in the presidential election, Sheikh Mohamed expressed his best wishes to the Egyptian government and people to attain further development over the coming era. He also affirmed that the UAE and Egypt enjoy strong historical ties on both the official and public levels.
