A missile that the U.S. Department of Defense says is confirmed as a "Qiam" ballistic missile manufactured in Iran by its distinctively Iranian nine fueling ports and that the Pentagon says was fired by Houthi rebels from Yemen into Saudi Arabia on July 2
CAIRO – 12 April 2018: The Egyptian Foreign Ministry has strongly condemned the firing of ballistic missiles by the Houthis over the Saudi capital and the southern cities of Jizan and Najran, a Thursday statement said.
According to state media and the Saudi-led coalition fighting the Iran-aligned Houthis in Yemen, three rockets were shot as Houthi fighters have stepped up attacks recently.
The Foreign Ministry statement added that Egypt is standing in solidarity with Saudi Arabia against all attempts to destabilize the region and threaten its peace and stability.
The statement said the attack made the Arab coalition fighting in Yemen more determined to restore legitimacy in Yemen and exert strenuous efforts in the war against terrorism.
The three missiles were intercepted by Saudi Arabia’s air defense forces. The Houthis claimed to have targeted the Riyadh’s defense ministry and a distribution facility in Najran, namely Aramco, which announced its facilities were operating normally.
The company is building a 400,000-barrel-per-day refinery in Jizan, part of a new economic city on the Red Sea, which is expected to become fully operational in 2019, according to Reuters.
The Houthis say their missile attacks on the kingdom are in retaliation for air raids on Yemen by the Western-backed coalition.
Egypt has been a member of the Saudi-led military coalition to restore legitimacy in Yemen since March 2015.
