CAIRO – 5 May 2017: Senior figure and businessman of the outlawed Muslim Brotherhood Hassan Malik was released on Thursday, pending investigations into charges of harming the Egyptian economy and affiliating with the banned group.
Two other defendants were also released pending investigation in the same case; however, the three accused were not released from jail, after a Cairo court of appeal submitted a challenge against their release.
Malik was arrested from his house in New Cairo’s upscale district of Tagammu el-Khames in October 2015.
In September 2013, a court ruling was issued to ban the Brotherhood, deeming it a “terrorist organization” and confiscating all its assets.
