Egyptians flocked to polling stations to elect the new president on Monday- Egypt Today- Mohamed el-Hosary
CAIRO - 26 March 2018: Egyptians headed on Monday to the polling stations to elect the next president, in a race pitting the incumbent president Abdel Fatah Al Sisi against El Ghad party chairperson Moussa Moustafa Moussa.
The 2018 presidential election is the third poll to take place in Egypt since the January 2011 revolution.
Here is the live update on the electoral process:
21:00-The polling stations' doors across the nation have been officially closed, marking the end of the first day of 2018 presidential election, to resume voting tomorrow at 9 am
20:12-Egypt’s cabinet affirmed that it follows up the voting process, praising the outstanding turnout of Egyptians.
According to the cabinet’s spokesperson, Ashraf Sultan, the 3-day voting process that kicked off Monday was smoothly undergoing, since opening the doors of polling stations at 9 am and throughout the day hours.
“The cabinet has closely followed up the polling process across the nation through the video conference option,” Asharf stated in a phone interview with Mehwar channel on Monday, saying that no major problems were reported, except for some complaints of delays in starting voting at some polling stations.
“There was a positive spirit among citizens during the first day of voting,” Sultan added.
18:42- A polling station in Shubra district in Cairo was closed for the absence of the judicial supervision.
The judge of the station was admitted to hospital after having a heart attack. Voters were not allowed to cast their votes until another judge replaces the previous one.
18:03- Prime Minister Sherif Ismail called on citizens to participate in the voting in the undergoing presidential election in a video shared by the official Facebook page of The Egyptian Cabinet Information and Decision Support Center.
"I call on all Egyptian citizens to participate in the presidential election for 2018; that will be a decisive, strong response to whoever tried to question this election. I am completely confident that Egyptians have the enough awareness and patriotism to support their nation in such time," the prime minister said in the video that was shot right after casting his vote.
16:21- The State Information Service released a statement saying that coordination with foreign media outlets and reporters registered to cover the presidential poll is in full swing, according to a Monday statement.
The SIS contacted 110 foreign media outlets on the first day of the voting process. The operation room received 19 complaints and inquiries from correspondents regarding their entrance to polling stations, and solved them all, said the statement.

16:00-Polling stations in North Sinai’s Beir el-Abd and Arish cities recorded the largest turnout in the presidential election thus far on Monday, according to the cabinet’s operation room.
