CAIRO – 24 March 2018: Some 600,000 seasonal workers are registered on the ministry’s online campaign that was recently launched in an aim to tally up the exact number of seasonal and temporal workers across Egypt.
In press statements, Minister of Manpower Mohamed Saafan said that the government is keen to get a good handle on the number of seasonal laborers to ensure that they have access to governmental services.
He also added that the number is expected to reach a million by the end of March.
Starting March, seasonal workers can register online on the ministry’s online campaign entitled “Hemaya” (Protection). The campaign is an attempt to introduce a comprehensive insurance scheme to temporary workers.
On Thursday, Safaan visited the construction sites in the new capital city and ordered that seasonal workers in these sites are provided with free medical examinations and free treatment courses for any health issues.
As per the instructions of President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi, the Cabinet announced the establishment of a national insurance scheme for seasonal workers aged between 18-95 years old on Saturday.
In response, Prime Minister Sherif Ismail affirmed that the Aman Insurance Certificate for temporary employment has no procedures or administrative documents, adding that it is worth LE 500 and can be topped until it is worth LE 2,500.
Ismail clarified that the Aman Certificate’s monthly installment starts from LE 4, and its highest monthly installment is LE 20, with a benefit period of five years or 10 years.
Sisi ordered during the inauguration of the first phase of the new city of Alamein at the beginning of March, that the procedures of the insurance policies for temporary and seasonal workers be finished within 15 days.
