CAIRO - 24 March 2018: EgyptAir is set to resume flights to Erbil, Iraq, as of April 13, Chairman and Managing Director of the flag carrier of Egypt Sherif Ezzat announced on Saturday.
Three flights will be operated weekly on Monday, Tuesday and Friday, Ezzat said.
A fourth flight is scheduled to be operated on Sunday as of September 16, he added.
In last September, all international flights from and to Erbil airport in Kurdistan Region in North Iraq were suspended as a punitive measure to the independence referendum, in which 93 percent of Kurdish people voted in favor of the split from Baghdad.
Earlier in March, Iraqi Prime Minister Haidar al-Abadi ordered to lift the ban gradually on Kurdistan Region's airports and to pay the suspended salaries to the public service employees in the region, however, relationships between Erbil and Baghdad still witnesses some differences, especially after passing the debated budget bill for 2018, despite the Kurdish reservations on their share in the budget.
