CAIRO – 24 March 2018: Mostakbal Wattan Party (Nation’s Future) organized a mass conference on Friday in the South Sinai governorate to promote the election of president Abdel Fatah Al-Sisi for a second term in office ahead of the three-day voting period which begins on Monday, according to a statement made by the party.
Sayed Attya, Secretary of Mostakbal Wattan in South Sinai, said that the conference was attended by the party’s leaders and members in the governorate and Suez Canal region, senior officials, tribal leaders and senior clerics in Sinai.
Moussa Moustafa Moussa, Head of al-Ghad Party, is the sole challenger to President Al-Sisi in March voting.
Al-Sisi has showed his intention to run for president during his closing speech at the end of the three-day “Tale of a Homeland” conference, where the president and the Egyptian government presented an overview of the projects and achievements made in different fields during the last four years.
On his official Twitter account, Sisi called on the Egyptian people to participate intensively in the upcoming election and give their votes to whomever they see most eligible.
The National Election Authority (NEA) announced that the two-day electoral silence began on Saturday in accordance with the Egyptian law and the authority’s declared election timetable.
On the other hand, the NEA spokesperson Mahmoud El Sherif, who also serves as the deputy head of the authority, said that the NEA did not detect any electoral violation during the campaigning period of the candidates, stressing the candidates' campaigns’ commitment to the election promotion rules.
El Sherif added that the primary results of the first round of the election will be announced on March 29, where decisions on appeals submitted by candidates, if any, will be made. The final results of the first round will be announced on April 2.
