CAIRO – 23 March 2018: The Egyptian Radio and Television Union and private media in Egypt are getting ready for the upcoming Egyptian presidential election, which takes place March 26-28 for Egyptians at home. The election is betweem incumbent President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and Moussa Moustafa Moussa, head of the Ghad Party.
The National Media Authority will form a central operations chamber starting next Saturday to follow up on the media coverage of the presidential election through all screens and broadcasts, National Media Authority head Hussein Zein said on Friday.
The chamber includes all sector heads, including news, regional channels, radio, television and specialized channels, that follow the National Media Authority, Zein added.
He called on the heads of sectors to intensify motivating citizens to participate in the election over the coming days until the start of the election, to inform the citizens of the procedures to make their electoral votes and to make them aware of the services and facilitations provided by the authorities concerned with organizing the election.
The Egyptian Radio and Television Union (ERTU) will provide 21 outside broadcast vehicles to be distributed among major governorates to monitor the electoral process, in addition to six baseband unit (BBU) devices to broadcast via the internet, Khaled Mohanna, head of the news sector in ERTU, told Al-Watan newspaper on Friday.
Forty-eight correspondents from the ERTU news sector will participate in the coverage, in addition to the correspondents of the "Regional Channels" sector. They will provide live coverage throughout the day from all governorates, as well as fixed correspondents to follow the updates from the Cabinet Operations Room and the State Information Service.
Nadia Mabrouk, head of ERTU radio sector, said that there are about 300 correspondents to be distributed among different committees, to follow up live on the voting updates during the three days of the election.
As for the coverage on private media channels, they are keen to offer minute by minute coverage through their reporters and anchors inside the studios. Experts are to analyze the indications of the voting process, receive complaints from citizens and follow up on the turnout of voters.
Also, some channels have programs tha are specialized in following up on the elections. CBC channel, through its “Egypt elects president” program, which is broadcast on “Extra News”, the platform for the basic coverage of the election, and ON Live channel through the program “The road to Ethadya Palace”.
Khaled Morsi, head of On Live channel, told Al-Watan that all the elements and members of the channel will be devoted to covering the election through a live broadcast to cover all events and follow up on the progress of the election in all governorates.
This election is considered to be different from the previous one, as no debates will be held between the two candidates, who also didn’t formally announce an election program, but provided the main guidelines of their policy during public speeches.

CAIRO - 21 March 2018: Presidential Candidate Moussa Moustafa Moussa is set to deliver a statement on Wednesday to voters in a campaign conference, to urge Egyptians to participate in the internal 2018 presidential election set to start on March 26.
In statements on Monday, Makram lauded the remarkable turnout for the presidential election held abroad March 16-18 in 139 electoral committees in 124 countries worldwide.
She said this high turnout of Egyptian expats showed their strong affiliation to their homeland and reflected the fact that they are part and parcel of the political decision-making in Egypt.
