PARIS - 23 March 2018: The mayor of the town in southern France where a hostage taker held several people in a supermarket, told LCI TV that the man entered the shop screaming "Allahu Akbar, (God is greatest) I'll kill you all".
Mayor Eric Ménassi told BFM TV earlier that the hostage taker was now alone with one police officer in the supermarket and all other hostages had been freed, and that there were two victims at the supermarket.
A spokesman for the French interior ministry said on Thursday that he cannot confirm the number of victims in an ongoing hostage situation in a supermarket in southern France.
"The hostage-taker is still inside the supermarket," Frederic de Lanouvelle told BFM TV, adding that the situation is ongoing.
"I see that there are reports of two killed. I cannot confirm this number at the moment," the spokesman said.
