CAIRO – 3 May 2017: President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi offered his condolences to the families of four Egyptian policemen killed in an attack on a security checkpoint Monday, and called for security services to find the perpetrators as quickly as possible.
According to a presidential statement released Tuesday, the Ministry of Interior submitted a report to the president explaining the circumstances of the incident that culminated in the deaths of four policemen and the injury of five others.
The president’s statement came during a meeting with Prime Minister Sherif Ismail and the ministers of Defense, Interior, Justice and Water Resources and Irrigation, as well as Governor of the Central Bank of Egypt Tarek Amer and Chiefs of the General Intelligence Directorate and the Administrative Control Authority.
The attack took place at a roundabout that intersects with the main Ring Road surrounding the capital. Armed men in two vehicles opened fire on a moving police convoy on Waha Road in Nasr City, in eastern Cairo.
