CAIRO - 2 May 2017: The Hasm Brotherhood has claimed responsibility for killing three policemen and wounding five others in an armed attack Monday on a moving security convoy on Waha Road in Nasr City, eastern Cairo.

In a statement posted on their website the terrorist group acknowledged that they detained the victims before the attack and seized a number of firearms after destroying two police cars.

There is a discrepancy in the reports of the crime with regards to timeframe. The Hasm Brotherhood claims it attacked the security convoy at 11:15 p.m. while Egypt’s Ministry of Interior said the attack took place at 11:45 p.m.

The Hasm Brotherhood, which is affiliated with the Muslim Brotherhood, also claimed responsibility for other terrorist attacks in the statement, without specifying which attacks.

The convoy that was attacked Monday was crossing a roundabout that intersects with the main Cairo Ring Road that surrounds the capital, separating New Cairo and new real estate projects from the city.

Police shot fire in retaliation at the attackers' vehicles which they were pursuing "in an effort to apprehend the perpetrators," the ministry said.
