Khattab receives Tunisia’s Fatima al-Fihri award

CAIRO – 1 May 2017: Egypt’s nominee for the post of the UNESCO director-general Moushira Khattab received Tunisia’s Fatima al-Fihri award, days after an interview with the nine candidates for the UNESCO’s top post was held, the ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a Sunday statement.

Fatima al-Fihri award is granted by Tunisia to women who make educational achievements and contribute to empowering women.
Khattab received the award in an honorary event in Tunisia, attended by Tunisian Minister of Women, Family and Childhood Naziha Laabidi.

Ambassador Moushira Mahmoud Khattab is an Egyptian diplomat who has led a long and distinguished career as a diplomat and human rights activist.

Khattab has received a PhD in Child Rights from Cairo University in addition to an M.A. in International Relations from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, USA and a B.A. in Political Science from the Faculty of Economics and Political Science, Cairo University.

She was ranked third in 2013 out of the five leading female human rights activists in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region.

Khattab served as Egypt’s minister of family and population and she was former assistant to the minister of foreign affairs. She also served as Egypt’s ambassador to the Republic of South Africa, the Czech Republic and Slovakia.
