CAIRO - 9 March 2018: President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi has performed Friday prayer in Marshal Tantawy Mosque, in New Cairo, to commemorate the army's "Martyr's Day."
He was accompanied by Minister of Defense Sadek Sobhi and a number of military personnel and Grand Mufti Shawqi Allam.
Egypt's Armed Forces annually celebrate Martyr's Day in memory of former military chief of the staff Abd El-Moneim Riad, who along with a number of military forces were targeted by Israeli mortars on March 9, 1969 during the War of Attrition (1967- 1970) between the Arabs and Israel.
Following the prayer, Sisi met with military and police leaders to be updated on the developments of the ongoing military operation “2018 Sinai” against terrorists in North Sinai.
“The Egyptians totally trust the ability of both the armed forces and the police in uprooting terrorism and bringing stability and security,” Sisi said, praising members of the military and police who sacrificed their lives for their homeland.
Last year, President Sisi also celebrated the Martyr's Day in Tantawy Mosque, praising the military and security people who sacrificed their lives for their homeland.
