Supreme Media Council to address ‘foul language’ in Abla Fahita

CAIRO – 8 March 2018: The Supreme Media Council announced that it will firmly deal with the “sexual language” repeatedly being used in the popular puppet “Abla Fahita” comedy TV show.

Based on a complaint filed to the Supreme Media Council, head of the council’s complaints committee, Gamal Shawky said that the council will send official correspondences to the show’s sole broadcaster, TV satellite channel “CBC”, asking them to remove all foul language used in the show.

Earlier in February, the council decided to stop the broadcast of TV show SNL Bel Araby.

The Media Council said in a statement published on Sunday that the decision was based on investigations held by the Council’s Complaints Committee, which stated that the program broadcast on OSN included inappropriate sexual implications unaligned with ethical and professional standards.

SNL Bel Araby is the Arabic edition of American franchise Saturday Night Live, produced by the cable network OSN. It first aired on February 20, 2016.

In December 2017, the Supreme Media Council banned Vodafone’s Abla advertisement featuring Abla Fahita from airing, citing that the commercial advertisement contains inappropriate phrases and scenes violating public taste and values.
