CAIRO – 5 March 2018: Pope Tawadros II hosted Saudi Crown Prince Mohamed bin Salman at the Egyptian Orthodox Cathedral in Abasseya in a historical meeting on Monday. The visit started at 3:00 p.m. with high security levels in the cathedral’s vicinity.

During the meeting, Pope Tawadros thanked Salman for the kind treatment for Christians in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, while Salman said he is grateful for the reactions of the Egyptian Church regarding the recent terrorist attacks targeting them.

After the visit ended, Salman invited Pope Tawadros to visit the Saudi Kingdom, praising the openness of decisions taken by Bin Salman in the last period.
Salman has driven numerous progressive decisions for the kingdom, from allowing women to drive cars to opening an opera house.
On Thursday, the Cairo International Airport received a number of Saudi officials preparing for Salman’s visit on Sunday. The delegation preparing for his visit to Egypt was the second Saudi delegation to arrive in Cairo. The delegation was received by a number of employees at the Saudi Embassy in Cairo.
President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi welcomed Salman on his first official visit to Egypt as heir to the throne. The president emphasized that Egypt’s leadership and people have a high regard and appreciation for the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz and for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, given the historic ties between the two countries.
