CAIRO - 28 April 2017: Egyptian Ministry of Defense posted a welcome video on its official website Thursday in homage to Pope Francis’s visit to Egypt which will last for two days which started on Friday.

The one minute video montage showcases the opulent aspects of the Roman Catholic Church headed by Pope Francis using very bright cinematography and dynamic tracking shots. The video features imagery rather than rhetoric and evokes the visual aesthetic of Visconti taking shots of the Vatican City and showcasing the church itself (belfries, basilicas, statues, spires, décor) in all its ecclesiastical splendor.

The Vatican had originally posted a video on Tuesday where Francis said he is coming to Egypt as a “messenger of peace.’’

The Pope’s visit will include a meeting with the Coptic Orthodox leader, Pope Tawadros II.
