CAIRO - 22 February 2018: The portals of all Egyptian national newspapers will undergo a makeover to ensure better communications with citizens, especially Egyptians abroad.
The National Press Authority signed a cooperation protocol with the Communications Ministry to upgrade the papers' portals in both Arabic or English languages, said Communications Minister Yasser el Qadi.
Under the 18-month, the ministry will also develop the human cadres in national newspapers, he added.
The protocol aims at helping these national newspapers to cope up with the information technology revolution, especially social networking websites which are highly favored by most of people.
He said the ministry began taking steps to set up an academy for training in coordination with the authority and national newspapers, noting that editing news for papers is different from social networking websites.
Karam Gabr, head of the National Press Authority, said he believes that national press is not going to disappear and that it is capable of addressing the problems it has been suffering from for more than 50 years now.
He added that there will be other modernization projects aiming at honing skills of journalists and helping them better communicate with Egyptians abroad.
Head of the Syndicate of Press and board chairman of Al Ahram newspaper Abdel Mohsen Salama and other board chairmen of national newspapers attended the signing ceremony.
