CAIRO - 22 February 2018: Cairo Criminal Court issued death sentences against 21 persons on charges of forming a terrorist group linked to Daesh.
Sixteen of the defendants were sentenced in absentia.
The court also ordered that four defendants in the same case be imprisoned for life and three others for 15 years.
The list of charges against the defendants included joining a group that calls for disrupting the constitution and laws, spreads extremist and takfiri thought and attempts to topple the ruling regime and assault army and police personnel and vital facilities with the aim of causing public disorder and endangering social peace and national stability and security.
