CAIRO – 26 April 2017: Cairo prosecutor ordered on Wednesday the arrest of the Mubarak's era Interior Minister Habib al-Adly to serve his seven-year term in prison.
Cairo’s Criminal Court sentenced Adly to serve seven years in prison on Sunday (April 15) over charges of embezzling public funds belonging to the Interior Ministry.
Adly, along with 12 of his ex top aids, were convicted of using their influence to illegally acquire EGP2.4 billion (approximately $132 million) during his tenure in office.
In 2014, he was acquitted, along with six of his aides, on charges of complicity in the killing of protesters during the 25 January Revolution in 2011.
