CAIRO – 21 February 2018: President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi met on Wednesday with Shinichi Kitao, head of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), presidential spokesman Bassam Radi said.

During the meeting, Egypt and Japan reviewed the current implemented projects in the framework of fruitful cooperation between the two sides, particularly in the construction of the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) and Egypt-Japan University for Science and Technology (E-JUST).

Sisi expressed his appreciation of the mutual cooperation between Egypt and the Japanese agency in implementing development projects in various fields, asserting the depth of relations between the two countries.

Egypt is looking for further cooperation with JICA, contributing to advancing the development process and meeting the aspirations of the Egyptian people towards achieving progress and prosperity, Sisi said.

In addition, he ordered Minister of Education Tarek Shawky to pay a visit to Japan next week, accompanied by a delegation of Egyptian educational experts, to get acquainted with the requirements needed for the Japanese schools project in Egypt to succeed.

Sisi further asserted the importance of developing the education system in Egypt. In order to achieve the maximum benefit of the 200 Japanese schools to be established, Japan should administrate the project and not just supervise it.

Sisi also invited Kitao to embark on a field tour in Egypt throughout his visit to survey the latest developmental projects in Egypt.

On his part, Kitao expressed his admiration of the development Egypt has witnessed under the presidency of Sisi, including the development of the Egyptian economy.

Egypt is establishing Japanese schools for the first time in history; the government has planned this project since 2016.
