Egypt is always proud of belonging to Africa: Supreme Constitutional Court head

CAIRO - 19 February 2018: Head of the Supreme Constitutional Court (SCC) counselor Abdel Wahab Abdel Razek said the Egyptian state is always proud of its belonging to the African continent and strives for a promising future with its African brothers.

Speaking at the inauguration of the second conference of Chief Justices, Presidents of Supreme Courts, Constitutional Courts and Heads of Judiciaries throughout Africa, Counselor Abdel Razek said "We must prove to the whole world that Africa will take the lead in the future," hoping this will take place in the near future.



Any civilized nation is measured by law enforcement and justice, he said.

The judicial system undertakes the duty of preserving civilizations and nations, Abdel Razek stressed, making it clear that there is no room in a civilized nation for terrorism, corruption, breaching law and legitimacy and perverting the course of justice.

He also thanked President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi for his patronage of the conference and his keenness on consolidating ties with African countries.

Vice President of the Supreme Constitutional Court (SCC) Adel Omar Sherif said ties between Egypt and African countries are time-honored and deeply rooted.

Egypt is looking forward to promoting cooperation with African countries at all levels, particularly in the judicial domain, Sherif said.

He also urged all African countries to work together to establish an African Judicial Center as an electronic platform involving all actors to resolve issues of common concern.

Sherif hoped the conference would help boost the judicial performance and its determinants in Africa.

He also said the African people are facing major and common challenges, stressing the necessity of elevating the level of cooperation and boosting joint efforts to face them.



Combating corruption, addressing the threat of terrorism and confronting human trafficking are common problems that should be considered in order to reach common visions on means of solving them, Sherif added.

He also expressed the SCC's appreciation of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi's patronage of the second edition of the conference in Cairo.

He thanked government bodies and the Egyptian Agency of Partnership for Development (EAPD) for helping the SCC in organizing the conference.

Nearly 45 African countries are participating in the three-day conference that aims at promoting the role of the constitutional judiciary in fighting terrorism, corruption and organized crimes.
