CAIRO – 26 April 2017: Egypt and Greece held a political consultation session at the Greek Foreign Ministry Thursday, according to an Egyptian Foreign Ministry press statement.
The session was chaired by Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sameh Shoukry and his Greek counterpart, Nikos Kotzias.
During the talks, the two sides discussed regional issues of common interest, including illegal migration, illegal arms and human trafficking, fighting terrorism and the situations in Libya, Syria and Yemen.
In a related statement, Greek President Prokopis Pavlopoulos said the world is coming to realize Egypt’s pivotal role in fighting terrorism, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ahmed Abu Zeid said Thursday.
Greece, according to Kotzias, will keep supporting Egypt in all challenges linked to social and economic reform.
President Pavlopoulos commended Egypt’s stances that make it the cornerstone of regional stability.
He also extended his greetings to Egypt’s President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi, lauding his strenuous efforts in boosting Egypt’s stability and social and economic renaissance.
The session between the foreign ministers coincided with Shoukry’s participation in the Ancient Civilizations Forum that opened in Athens on April 24.
The two-day conference took place at Zappeio Hall in the Greek capital on Sunday.
The conference featured representatives from countries that descended from ancient civilizations, including Egypt, Iraq, China, India and Peru as well as Greece.
