Cairo- 22 April, 2017: President Abdel Fatah Al-Sisi asserted Egypt full support to the Congolese army in its battle against the armed groups in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), during the joint press conference with Congolese President Joseph Kabila at Itihadiya Palace in Cairo on Saturday.

Al-Sisi highlighted the results of his meeting with Kabila, who landed in Cairo earlier Saturday, saying that their talks addressed boosting bilateral relations between the two countries, raising the amount of trade, encouraging joint economic projects, such as the collaboration between Suez Canal Authority and Development Agency of Inga Dam, besides aiding Congo to build two solar energy plants in Congolese Capital Kinshasa.

“Egypt and Congo sought after achieving economic development, based on their human and materialistic sources,” Al-Sisi stated Saturday, pointing out that the two brothering countries share the same point of views towards several regional and international issues, asserting the historic relations between the two nations.

Egypt takes part in the United Nations Mission in DRC, to monitor the peace process of the Second Congo War. In February 2009, Egypt sent a police force to help in protecting the UN mission in Congo as well.

Al-Sisi stressed on Egypt’s respect to the sovereignty of all territories of DRC, urging the international community to back the efforts of counter militias and the misuse of Congolese natural sources, in a way that keeps the rights of Congolese people.
