Parl't speaker participates meeting of IPU Executive Committee

CAIRO - 3 February 2018: House of Representatives Speaker Ali Abdel Aal on Saturday took part in the 277th extraordinary session of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Executive Committee, under the chairmanship of its President Gabriela Cuevas Barron.

The two-day session kicked off with the participation of the members of the IPU Executive Committee as well as representatives of the geopolitical groups that were invited by the IPU president, according to a statement issued by the Egyptian House of Representatives.

The agenda of the summit includes discussing the IPU strategy during the period from 2017 through 2021 in addition to several amendments to its Basic Law and internal regulation.

Endorsing Arabic as an official language at the IPU is included among the suggested amendments.

Abdel Aal was elected as member of the Executive Committee to represent the Arab Group during the 136th IPU Assembly that was held in Dhaka, Bangladesh, in 2017.
