CAIRO – 2 February 2018: Egyptian presidential candidate Moussa Mostafa Moussa will form a presidential team for the election due in March, his election campaign spokesperson Adel Esmat told Egypt Today on Thursday.
A few hours before the election candidacy closure, Al-Ghad party nominated Moussa to run for president and be contender against President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi, who seeks a second term.
“The party is preparing a presidential team and it will be announced as soon as it is being formed,” adding, “the party is sticking to the National Election Authority (NEA) timeline.”
As for the campaigners, Esmat said that the party is still preparing a list for the campaigning committee that will be responsible for marketing and organization activities nationwide during the upcoming days.
The NEA released a statement on Tuesday considering Mousa one of the potential candidates in its initial list after he succeeded to gain 20 recommendations from the House of Representatives (the Parliament).
Voting in the 2018 presidential election in Egypt will commence on March 26, as announced by the National Electoral Authority (NEA) on January 8. Sixty million eligible voters will cast their ballots in the election between March 26 and 28 in Egypt, while expatriates will vote between March 16 and 18.
Sisi officially announced his candidacy for the 2018 presidential election on January 19.
He took office in 2014 after protesters toppled the Muslim Brotherhood-affiliated ex-president Mohamed Morsi.
