CAIRO – 20 April 2017: The Cairo Criminal Court held the trial of Gamal and Alaa the two sons of Egypt’s ousted leader Hosni Mubarak on charges of stock market manipulation, Thursday.
The charges included embezzling at least EGP493 million and EGP628 thousand after they decided to sell the National Bank of Egypt for profit.
Seven others are also charged along with Mubarak’s sons.
Mubarak, who was ousted following Egypt's 2011 revolution, was convicted by a lower court on corruption charges with his two sons.
In May 2015, a court sentenced Gamal and Alaa to three years in jail over embezzling at least EGP125 million (USD16 million in 2015) from funds earmarked for maintenance of presidential palaces.
