CAIRO - 16 January 2018: Immigration Minister Nabila Makram stressed on Tuesday her ministry's keenness on strengthening ties and cooperating with the Egyptian scientists abroad as well as inviting them to present their views to the highest levels of the state.

She noted that opening up communication channels with the Egyptian scientists abroad falls within the framework of the support provided by the state competent bodies and due to efforts of the Egyptian scientists inside and outside Egypt to establish the first Egyptian Space Agency (ESA).

Makram made the remark during her meeting with Mohamed Mahmoud Ibrahim an Egyptian Senior Systems Architect and an expert of satellite engineering and systems and analyzing space radiation effects and designing fault tolerant mitigation techniques for small satellites' On-Board Computers (OBC) in Japan.

The meeting was held as part of the ministry’s efforts to follow up the implementation of the recommendations issued by "Egypt Can” conference as well as Ibrahim's participation in the establishment of the Egyptian Space Agency (ESA).

Makram congratulated the Egyptian people and Ibrahim on the approval by the House of Representatives on a bill to establish an Egyptian space agency.

For his side, Ibrahim voiced the necessity of establishing the ESA in accordance with the companies specialized in the satellite systems, pointing out that he had presented this proposal to the state 10 years ago to be stated in the law establishing the space agency.

He said that he offered the idea of establishing the ESA in “Egypt Can” conference, held in Hurghada in 2016, adding that his meeting with President Abdel Fattah El Sisi among a delegation comprising Egyptian scientists abroad, was an important turning point, as the president urged them to implement the recommendations of the conference.
