Cairo – 15 April 2017: The Qena Criminal Court sentenced Saturday an excavation technician to five years in prison over charges of using Facebook to promote thoughts and beliefs that incite violence against the state.
In November 2016, the prosecution accused the 26-year-old man of writing posts on Facebook containing thoughts and ideologies that trigger violence against state institutions and fuel terrorism.
The ruling comes amid concerns sparked by the three-month
declared by Egyptian President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi last week, which was then approved unanimously by the Parliament.
